Firstly let me welcome you to 861 (Wideopen) Squadron's website where you will be able to view this exceptional squadron’s ongoing achievements and current activities.

The Air Cadet Organisation provides all young adults from the ages of 13 to 20 with an opportunity to develop a wide variety of skills and the ability to take part in activities that most young people can only dream about.

861 (Wideopen) Squadron will help provide the skills and opportunities allowing you to achieve your goals in life. The skills you will develop as a cadet within the Air Cadet Organisation include teamwork, leadership, discipline, communication and self-confidence.

These skills are taught and cultivated through the wide ranging activities the Air Cadets has to offer. At 861 (Wideopen) Squadron, we expand on many of the core activities such as flying, target shooting, adventure training, sports, hill walking, canoeing, fieldcraft and military skills and abseiling. As you browse further through our website you will see the diverse range of activities and accomplishments that this squadron has achieved recently and in the past.

There is no secret to the success of 861 (Wideopen) Squadron. It is the culmination of good preparation, hard work, teamwork, a desire to better ourselves and to never give up.  This spirit is embodied in both the Adult Staff Team as well as the Cadets. This unit ethos is what creates the sprit of 861 (Wideopen) Squadron.

As an ex-cadet myself, the experiences and skills that I gained through the Air Cadets as well as worthwhile qualifications has not only helped me at every stage of my life to date, but has also enabled me to form friendships and gain experiences that I will never forget.
